(For Widows & Widowers)

Since September 12, 2022 the Deacons of the Versailles Baptist Church have supported a Ministry for Widows and Widowers.  In 2025 we included not only members of Versailles Baptist Church but also friends of the community who have suffered the loss of their spouse.  They found themselves trying to navigate life without their partner.  The resource we use is the book, “Inside the Broken Heart”, by Julie Yarbrough.  It provides a guide for their personal journey through grief.

Each month we provide an hour class time for discussion and sharing.  Also, once a month the group enjoys an outing for lunch for socialization and fellowship.  We began with 5 participates in 2022 and as of the end of 2025, we have had 18 widows and 1 widower in attendance.

It has been wonderful to see how they reach out and show compassion to each other when someone in the group is hurting.  They are strong together and their faith in the God they love grows deeper.  They know that it is not a race but a slow, steady pace that gets them to the other side of grief.

He heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds.  Psalms 147:3
